Cureton Powder Horns are loved for their antiqued finish and traditional style.

Cureton Powder Horns - Traditional
In the 1960's, Earl Cureton decided he was going to build Kentucky rifles. After he had built one or two, he decided he needed to provide a powder horn with the rifle, so he made a few horns. Strangely enough, more people wanted his powder horns than his rifles, so Mr. Cureton quit making rifles and concentrated on powder horns. For over 30 years he built powder horns until he decided he did not want to spend his retirement being forced to make horns. In 1992, we purchased his business and spent a time training with him in his style of building Early American powder horns. We are proud to carry his tradition to the next generation. The Cureton Powder Horn is a more traditional style powder horn. This style would have been found in the Colonial period to the Mountain Man era. The horn typically has a rounded base, a lathe turned baseplug and is carried with a narrow leather lace. Many are stained to effect an antique patina.
